PH Kayaking Races and Ecotour 2013!

DOT Region 3 once again supports the country’s longest running series, Philippine Kayaking Series, as it makes the most of the hottest season of the year with fun and competitive races for the whole family, nature conservation activities, authentic Pinoy fiestas on June 1-2, 2013 in the exclusive Anvaya Cove Beach and Nature Club in Morong, Bataan.

Beach-loving Filipinos are now enjoying the internationally popular sport of kayaking for fun and recreation while the sport is also becoming a major player in ecotourism and eco-friendly activities in the country. Kayaking in the islands is a familiar scene in more fun in the Philippines billboards.

The first day, June 1, offers exciting activities like clinics to learn kayaking, with a new addition, the increasingly popular Stand Up Paddle or SUP as known to paddlers worldwide. Enjoyable fun races of kayak slalom and a 3km novice race are open to families who may team up with their moms and dads or siblings. Teams are made up of 2 persons since tandem kayaks are used for the event.

Two major races to provide adventure and challenge await athletic participants who will join the 25km kayak marathon from Anvaya Cove to Subic and back as well as the 6K Anvaya Beach Run-Kayak Relay. After the 1st half or 12.5km leg of the 25K marathon, DOT Region 3 is hosting lunch in Subic Bay with songs and dances from the Magbukon Tribe of the Kanawan Aeta Village. Marathoners return to Anvaya Cove for the finish line welcomed by the school children of Sabang Elementary School.

The 6km relay will be a 1km run along the coast and a 5km kayak run on a triangulated course to extend outside the cove.

After the races, a water bonsai demo and exhibit as well as a Saving the Pawikan talk precedes the Anvaya Cove Barrio Fiesta which promises to provide more culturally enriching numbers to cap the races and clinic day. A practical demonstration on growing water bonsai cum exhibit by Edwin de la Torre will likewise be featured. Cash prizes, trophies and gift items will be given away to top finishers led by Club Manager George Cadhit. There is also a raffle to liven up the Awards Nite.

Eco-touring is featured on the second day of the event, June 2. The group leisurely paddles to Mabayo Cove for mangrove planting and coastal cleanup while some may opt to swim or snorkel. The Galunggong fiesta awaits the flotilla in Anvaya Cove after. These activities are done through the active partnership between the Club Foundation and Mabayo Small Fishermen’s Association, Bagong Pangarap Fishermen’s Association of Barangay Sabang guided by the energetic Morong and SBMA Farm-C chairman Restie del Rosario.

Anvaya Cove Kayak Explore is a welcome treat to kayakers and other outdoor enthusiasts as Anvaya Cove opens its doors for the third year. The support of Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, Department of Tourism, Province of Zambales and International School of Sustainable Tourism has helped organizers bring together private sector and media to sponsor an environmentally and culturally relevant kayaking event.
