Boracay

Boracay

Boracay is known far and wide as an island paradise. It has charmed vacationers with its powder white sand and crystal blue waters. Located at the northern tip of Panay Island, Boracay is about three (3) hours away from Manila. Boracay, roughly shaped like a dumb bell, is 7- kilometer long with its narrowest point at only 1 kilometer wide. The best part of the island is its 4- kilometer White Beach, also called long beach by the locals. It is situated at the west coast between the villages of Angol and Balabag, and some experienced travelers claim it to be the finest beach in all Asia.

POINTS OF INTEREST

Water Sports - An island like Boracay with its beautiful beaches and emerald water offers a natural invitation for watersports activities. Windsurfing and water sports latest equipment are available at prices almost every one can afford. They also have jet skis (water scooters) and speed boats for rent. Sailing yacht for cruise to neighboring islands, such as Romblon and North Palawan, can be chartered from time to time. Island tours by motorized bancas inclusive of picnic lunch with drinks as well as free use of snorkeling gears are offered at very reasonable rates by many resorts and private banca owners.

Living Coral Beds - A large coral shelf that has countless varieties of living coral in a myriad of shapes and sizes, including many examples of colorful brain coral. The shelf is exposed above the water level at low tide. The coral and rocky coast line combine to make a perfect location for photographers.

Puka Beach - This beach which covers half of the northern tip of the island is more than one kilometer long and has an abundance of small shells and tiny, white coral amulets, which are suitable for necklace pendants.

White Beach - Boracay's premier beach is more than 3 kilometers long and up to 100 meters wide. The major attractions are sunbathing on the sparkling white sand or relaxing under the cool shelter of the bordering palm trees.

Willy's Rock - Situated one hundred meters off shore, in the shallow water near Boat Station 2, Willy’s Rock is a castle-like volcanic formation that dominates the seascape along White Beach. Facing the beach are stairs leading to a chapel at the top, which contains a statue of the Virgin Mary.

HOW TO GET THERE

Boracay is accessible by plane and boat from Manila and Cebu City via Panay Island. An alternative route is a boat ride from surrounding islands like Mindoro and Tablas/Romblon. Air Philippines, Cebu Pacific, and Philippine Airlines have daily flights to Kalibo which is about 1 hour ride by land to Caticlan. From Caticlan, guests will have to travel by boat for about 30 minutes before reaching Boracay Island. Smaller planes like Asian Spirit and Seair have direct flights daily from Manila to Caticlan.

There is a frequent banca ferry service between Caticlan and White Beach on Boracay which stops at designated boat stations. There are no piers in the landing point, so be prepared to get wet by packing up your valuables in plastic and by wearing rubber slippers and shorts.
