The province of Batangas, a few hours by land from Metro Manila, presents an eyeful of discoveries for the traveller.
One can explore Taal Volcano, the smallest volcano in the world surrounded by the mysterious depths of Taal Lake; swim and dive into Verde Island Passage and Anilao’s very own underwater Eden; marvel at Laiya Aplaya, San Juan town’s famous stretch of white sand beach; visit the many centuries-old churches, each one architecturally awe-inspiring and imbibe a bit of the rich history and cultural heritage at the Taal Heritage Village where well-preserved ancestral houses, shrines and museums display the memorabilia of many heroic sons and daughters of Batangas.
These are the reasons why Vice Governor Jose Antonio Leviste III and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Batangas approved an ordinance last November 27, 2013, declaring the 1st Day of December of every year as the launching day of “Bisita Batangas”.
All Batangas tourism officers and stakeholders are enjoined and encouraged to adopt and support the “Bisita Batangas” to promote tourism as the main contributor to the social and economic welfare of the Province.
Dir. Rebecca Villanueva – Labit of the Department of Tourism (DOT) – Region IV commends the efforts of the Provincial Government of Batangas for implementing projects that will contribute to the development of tourism and the appreciation of the historical and cultural heritage sites, natural attractions, culinary and leisure destinations of the CALABARZON Region.
THE CRUISE EXPERIENCE IN THE CITY OF PUERTO PRINCESA
The City of Puerto Princesa is a popular destination in the Philippines. The selection and recognition of the Puerto Princesa Underground River, as one of the New7Wonders of Nature was the source of our enduring national pride. Global interest and the expected visitor inflows have steadily grown to become a significant factor in the ongoing development of Cruise Tourism.
It was no doubt at all that the MV “Costa Victoria”, a luxury passenger cruise ship with 2,394 passengers on board dropped its anchor in the City last January 7, 2014 for the first time.
The Department of Tourism – Region IV, City Government of Puerto Princesa and the Island Paradise Travel and Tours – designated as the official land tour operator, collaborated all its efforts to arrange professionalized tour services and manage the shore activities that made it a worthwhile and fun experience for the passengers.
It was indeed a manifestation of a strong partnership between the public and private sector to meet the varied challenges to attract cruise lines to call on the City of Puerto Princesa, with the corresponding demand for upgraded tourism services, varied choices of activities, better modes of transportation and availability of amenities that will respond to the expectation of the cruise passengers. The arrival ceremonies with groups of performers sang and danced despite the heavy downpour. Passengers were given a special performance by the Palawan Children’s Violinist which endeared the visitors.
It is expected that there will be more than 8 cruise ships arriving at the Port of Puerto Princesa this year.
