Dive sites in Dakak Park and Beach Resort:
DIVE SITES Dakak Dive Sites provide a wide variety of terrain from gradual slopes, to coral thickets, vertical walls and caves. Marine life is diverse; some spots thick with soft coral growth and huge basket sponges others with schools of jacks, surgeons, and small reef dwellers.
LIUAY ROCK Shallow dive, sloping bottom, good selection of invertebrates, especially soft corals. Found and unusual nudibranch, several starfish. Good for novices and general poking around. Ideal for Check-out Dives.
TAG-ULO WEST Extending from Liuay Rock to Tag-ulo point, it is a large dive area, much of it sloping with sandy bottom and coral heads, dense soft coral growth, cowries, large basket sponges, batfish, nudibranchs, octopuses, lionfish, and sea anemones with clownfish. Toward the point small schools of fish are more frequently spotted including rainbow runners, surgeons and occasional sweet lips. Good for novices.
TAG-ULO POINT Good area for sighting large groupers and blue spotted rays, although coral growth is somewhat limited. Wave action has destroyed much of the coral in the shallows, Strong currents attract some pelagic fish that converge to feed especially to the west of the point. Not recommended for novices. THE CAVES Beautiful walls drop to an average of 60ft where there is a sandy bottom and a series of caves inhabited by sweepers, soldier fish, puffer fish and sea plumes. Some nice bushes of black coral. Night diving is spectacular with Spanish Dancers, sleeping fish and a wide variety of nocturnal crustaceans.
MUSHROOM WALL At only 10feet the shallow reef area turns to a nice wall with fan coral, encrusting sponges, crevices, small ledges and dramatic undercuts, bottoming out at about 60feet. Huge patches of hard corals (staghorn, lettuce leaf etc.) with thousands of colorful reef fish separate Mushroom Wall from the Caves on its east and to Snapper Ridge to the west.
SNAPPER RIDGE (Marine Sanctuary) Gradually sloping coral gardens with a good variety of reef dwellers to depths 50feet, followed by a wide sandy ridge, with eagle rays. At its edge jobfish, schools of snappers and jacks feed.
THE GARDENS (Marine Sanctuary) A series of coral gardens, small walls, sandy areas with coral heads and slopes with soft corals. Lots of anthias, hawkfish, invertebrates. CHALLENGER's REEF Area is almost half the size of Aliguay Island its top is about 15 feet deep, with soft coral growth. The northern part of the island has short walls and crevices and a few juvenile fish. Not recommended for novices.
WEST ALIGUAY Sandy area with large coral mounds, rays, soft coral, good for poking around. Current mininimal, good for novices.
ROMY's REEF Lots of coral mounds, with huge basket sponges, nice selection of reef fish and invertebrates. Great spot for blue spotted rays and a few turtles. Some coral damage and barren areas. Eastern area with massive coral thickets extends through Eskuelahan.
ESKUELAHAN Named for the many schools of fish (snappers, jacks, rainbow runners, surgeons) and occasional tunas, it is a hub of activity with fish of all size feeding. Giant frogfish have been sighted. Currents may be a problem for novices.
WEST SILINOG Good soft coral growth, variety of invertebrates and reef dwellers. Good for novices.
BUCHOK's REEF A series of large coral mounds, with nice selection of marine life; giant reef rays, small white tip sharks, unicorn surgeons, snappers and sweetlips. Experienced divers only.
OCTOPUS WALL Small wall with pretty growth, octopuses, scorpion fish, sponges, tubastrea, continues into a slope to the north with some unusual crinoid's covered formations provide a very picturesque view of a Ruder fish, Groupers, etc.
