Bulacan - Visita Iglesia
Venue Malolos City, Bulacan
Description: Journey to Spiritual Renewal with a Trip Back in Time: Set off early, take the North Luzon Expressway, and get off at the Tabang Exit. Just a few kilometers away, past many roadside stores selling ornamental plants, stands your first stop - Barasoain Church in Malolos. It was in this hallowed 121-year-old church that, on Sept. 29, 1898, the revolutionary congress, with Pedro Paterno presiding, ratified the independence declared on June 12, 1898, by Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo in Kawit, Cavite. On Jan. 21, 1899, it ratified the Malolos Constitution, the first of its kind in Asia. Next stop is the nearby Basilica Minore de Imaculada Concepcion, which dominates the town square by sheer size and Marian blue hue. In front of the church is the over 100-year-old Kalayaan Tree that Aguinaldo himself planted. After buying the famous Malolos ensyamada or plants and clay pots that the town is famous for, take the narrow but smooth country road to Paombong. You'll know you're there when you see many roadside stalls selling bottles of the famous milky-white vinegar that bears the town' name. The main church here is the Santiago Apostol Church, its primary attractions being the small paintings by a local artisan depicting the 14 stations of the cross. If you have time, visit the Kapitangan Catholic Chapel with its own stations of the cross. Next to Paombong is Hagonoy, originally spelled Hagunuy as seen in the municipal hall. Next to the town is the beautiful National Shrine to St. Anne, an imposing structure in old rose that is the quiet town's pride and joy. The main doors are works of art in themselves. See the central altar decorated with gold leaf, a worthy setting for the revered figure of St. Anne. The church was put up by the Augustinians in 1581 and was declared a national shrine to St. Anne in 1991, making it a must-see church for the country's legions of Marian devotees. Another required visit is the over 400-year-old St. John the Baptist Church in Calumpit. Like most churches built in the 19500s, the stone church is shaped like a cross with the bell tower as one of its main features. Giant chandeliers hanging from very high ceilings put extra touch of elegance to Calumpit's treasure. Last stop is the church of San Isidro de Labrador, the patron saint of farmers, in Pulilan. San Isidro was also the town's old name. Like most churches here, the Augustinians were the first to build the religious monument. The church and the town take center stage on May 14 - 15 when the fiesta is celebrated in honor of the patron saint. It is highlighted by the famous Carabao Festival attended by the so-called 'kneeling' animals. (Credits: Tina Arceo-Dumlao/Jerome Dumlao, Phil. Daily Inquirer, Apr. 9, 2006)

Description From Clark Freeport Zone, an eight-hour journey to the Seven Churches of Pampanga, built from 1572 to 1900, will give a realistic experience of the European Renaissance. These are: Angeles (Holy Rosary Parish) Church - The product of forced labor in the Spanish colonial era turned out to be a fantastic and refreshing work of art; Lubao (St. Augustine Parish) Church - Pampanga's oldest church is a subject of architectural and engineering wonders and celebrates the artistic ingenuity of European and Filipino fine artists; Betis (St. James Parish) Church - Its interior is one of the most beautiful in the world, one of the few structures celebrating the artistic ingenuity of the Pampango and the Filipino. With its impressive exterior and retablo, it is one of the few places in the Philippines declared as National Treasure; Bacolor (San Guillermo Parish) Church - The Mt. Pinatubo calamities devastated the historic town of Bacolor, the former Philippine capital and known as the Athens of the Philippines, but not this artistically and historically fascinating church. Now half buried in lahar, the church still stands formidably welcoming devotees during Sunday masses; Guagua (Immaculate Concepcion) Parish - This church showcases the aesthetic outcome of perfection thru simplicity and delicate balancing in interior design. Although submerged in high flood waters for months during rainy seasons, it still stands majestically; San Fernando Cathedral - One perfect example how strong religiosity, labor of love and community spirit could create one significant work of art; Minalin (Parish) Church - The structural combines ancient and medieval ambiance as well as syntheses European and Malayan culture. The Sinukwan festival heralds unique culture and distinct beliefs of the Kapampangans through a colorful parade along the capital city of San Fernando, and a province-wide dance competition showcasing indigenous rituals and music along San Fernando main thoroughfare. The festival is conceived to pay tribute to king Sinukwan who has since evolved to become the essence of the Kapampangan character. This is also the reason why the focus of the festival's attire is the "headdress" symbolizing Sinukwan's kingly crown. But more importantly, the festival is a living testament to what is known as the "Lahing Kapampangan".

Also known as the Philippine Japan Friendship Highway, the highway was improved with the assistance of the Japanese government. To better accommodate the increasing passenger traffic, bus and ferry terminals were geared up to maintain its vital function of facilitating the movement of people, goods and services through most parts of the country through the assistance of operators of long distance bus services. The improvement of services along the Pan-Philippines Highway is further boosted by RORO ferry services that link the western seaboard trunk route and lateral connections of the Pan-Philippines Highway within the Visayas area.
