Cebu Hosting the 1st Cebu International TESOL Conference on August 12-15, 2010

The future of Cebu as a Second Language Education destination takes shape with Cebu's hosting of the 1st Cebu International TESOL Conference on August 12-15 this year. Venues are the Cebu International Convention Center, Cebu Doctors University - Mandaue, and the Benedicto College, all in Mandaue City.

The conference is organized by the Asian EFL Journal and the Cebu Hub for English Learning Excellence (CHELE), an association set up to establish Cebu to the world as the prime destination for learning English.

Anchored on the theme "The English Language: The Power to Connect," the event will bring together both internationally and nationally renowned speakers, and a wealth of abstracts from over 100 educators worldwide. Topics will include, among others, second language acquisition theories, teaching English to international students, professional issues on educational standards, alternative approaches and latest trends to teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) and English for specific Purposes (ESP).

The international conference will benefit teachersm professors, lectures, researchers and even students from all universities and colleges offering English and education courses.

Previous TESOL conventions attracted unprecedented numbers of educators/attendees. This year's conference expects to draw at least 1,000 delegates. Necessarily, the organizing committees are manned by participants from 15 major educational institutions in Cebu. The event is also strongly supported by Cebu's business organizations, government offices, and the "One Cebu" Festival organizers.

Primary conference activities are on August 13 and 14. Educational workshops and trainings on August 12 and 15.

Note: Registration fee is P3,500 per participant, but early-bird discounts await fast decision makers. For participants registering by June 30, the fee is P2,500. If by July 30, its P3,000. The net proceeds of the event will be for the development of English education.
