Oroquieta is the home of several cultural events in Region X of Misamis Occidental. These events are celebrated every year in an effort to continue to reinforce the cultural values among citizens. Some events last a weeklong, which allow visitors to enjoy and share the nostalgic tone of yesteryears.
Unlike the other metropolis cities in the Philippines, Oroquieta is a peaceful, quiet and yet pleasant town to visit. It is a place where you can enjoy the clear blue skies, taste the clean crisp air and see its majestic shining blue waters, all while sitting at the park or attending one of their cultural festivals. There are no big movie theatres, discotheques, casinos, and girly bars in Oroquieta, but there are small sporting events that are conducted in public parks for everyone to witness and enjoy sportsmanship. Undoubtedly, what you will find in Oroquieta is the warmth and love from its people.
The yearly celebrations culminate in a series of pageants and parades along the main boulevard, which feature groups of people elegantly clothed to reflect their ethnic roots. The parade also features students from participating schools marching through in rhythmic moves. Each participant depicts the cultural aspiration from the past. Although each person may be of different descent, however, there is only one thing that remains unchanged. The hospitable smile warms every visitor's heart who witnesses this trusting innocent human race. With the influx of visiting neighbors, either local or international, the people of this land are always ready to accommodate each and everyone with the most welcoming hospitality that they have to offer. The glow of the Oroquieta's sun nourishes each and every Filipino's heart for love and kinship.
